Orthopedics

Orthopedics, a key specialty to keep us moving
Among our older adult patients, orthopedics is a highly requested specialty. But what is its role?
Orthopedics is the medical discipline that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Orthopedic specialists treat a wide range of conditions, from fractures and sprains to more complex issues such as arthritis or congenital deformities. They can also perform surgeries, such as hip or knee replacements, and work in rehabilitation to help patients regain mobility.
At La Colonia, orthopedics is part of the advanced pain relief program and a multidisciplinary team that performs procedures such as:
- Intra-articular injections
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy
Diagnostic tests in orthopedics or traumatology include:
- X-rays
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Computed Tomography (CT) scans
- Ultrasound
- Neurodynamic tests, to evaluate the musculoskeletal system and detect possible injuries
Pain is a warning signal that must be addressed—a vital and complex experience where giving up is not an option.
