Equal opportunities

La Colonia complies with employment laws

Private employers, local and state authorities, educational institutions, employment agencies, and labor organizations are subject to federal laws protecting job applicants and employees from discrimination based on the following grounds:

RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, protects job applicants and employees from discrimination in hiring, promotion, termination, compensation, benefits, training, job classification, referrals, and other employment aspects due to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), or national origin. Religious discrimination includes failure to provide reasonable accommodations for an employee's religious practices unless doing so would impose an undue hardship.

DISABILITY

Title I and Title V of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, protect qualified individuals from discrimination based on disability in hiring, promotion, termination, compensation, benefits, training, job classification, referrals, and other employment aspects. Disability discrimination includes failing to provide reasonable accommodations for known physical or mental limitations of a qualified individual with a disability unless it causes undue hardship.

AGE

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, protects job applicants and employees aged 40 and older from age discrimination in hiring, promotion, termination, compensation, benefits, training, job classification, referrals, and other employment aspects.

SEX (WAGES)

In addition to the prohibition of sex discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, as amended, prohibits sex-based wage discrimination between men and women performing substantially similar work in jobs requiring equal skill, effort, and responsibility under similar working conditions within the same establishment.

GENETICS

Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) protects job applicants and employees from discrimination based on genetic information in hiring, promotion, termination, compensation, benefits, training, job classification, referrals, and other employment aspects. GINA also restricts employers from acquiring genetic information and strictly limits its disclosure. Genetic information includes information about genetic tests of applicants, employees, or their family members; the manifestation of diseases or disorders in family members (family medical history); and requests or receipt of genetic services by applicants, employees, or their family members.

RETALIATION

All federal laws prohibit covered entities from retaliating against individuals who file a discrimination charge, participate in discrimination proceedings, or oppose illegal employment practices.
