The Spanish Colony
The name “La Colonia” comes from one of the most prestigious hospitals in Sagua La Grande, established in the late 19th century. Historical records show that by the mid-20th century, it served the working class, offering comprehensive medical care—including surgeries, consultations, lab tests, X-rays, medications, and hospitalizations—for a modest monthly fee. The hospital also featured the most advanced radiology technology of its time.

Jorge Acevedo, a physician proud of his roots, always dreamed of founding his own clinic and honoring the iconic healthcare center of his hometown with its name.
Jorge Acevedo
He is the president and founder of the company. Born in Las Villas, Cuba, in the town of Sagua La Grande, he moved to Miami at age 27 after earning his medical degree. He began his career at a healthcare center serving elderly patients, and from that moment, he committed himself to redefining geriatric medicine in South Florida, believing that true progress comes from innovation and offering services not yet available.

He values simplicity, loyalty, family, and a deep love for his roots. To this day, he continues to show the same affection, dedication, and personal attention to patients and employees—members of this great family who have always been his purpose and inspiration.
La Casita
It all began in a small “little house,” as it was affectionately called, located on the site where the large La Colonia center stands today in Hialeah.
To offer patients a comprehensive healthcare system, medical services were temporarily moved to a clinic in eastern Hialeah while the “little house” was transformed into a wellness center. In 2011, the building was demolished to make way for the first facility on the site, which established the institution’s identity.
